Just a few weeks ago, clinical research sites from around the world converged upon Boca Raton, FL to participate in the annual Site Solutions Summit, hosted by SCRS (The Society for Clinical Research Sites). This event has emerged as the premier event for sites, focused on networking with sponsors and CRO attendees as well as exploring best practices for research sites.
As an SCRS Global Impact Partner, Trifecta had the opportunity to play a major role in supporting this year’s Summit-both as host to the SCRS Studio Interview Lounge, as well as sponsoring the Eagle Awards gala celebration.
At the SSS, the room is filled with the energy of sharing best practices and knowledge. In this spirit, below are three of the key themes shared with Trifecta at the Interview Lounge & throughout the Summit.
Site Success Touches Everyone in Clinical Research
We spoke directly with site owners, principal investigators, study coordinators, sponsors and CROs from all over the world at the Interview Lounge. Everyone was clearly energized, highly engaged to “ensure patients receive novel medicines as quickly as possible” and eager to “share and learn best practices, get involved and network with peers.” Many sites were eager to share with us their favorable experiences with our platform-InvestigatorSpace®, which allows sites to complete required training, including both GCP and protocol-specific training in a convenient, on-demand format. Many of those interviewed understood this type of training is an important part of a clinical training strategy and is strongly preferred over the virtual, webinar-type training, which does nothing to alleviate scheduling burdens-“for better attendance, better compliance, online training provides a better option.”
“True Partnerships” Drive Collaboration & Innovation
I had the opportunity to sit down with Meri Kay Scott, Senior Director Global Clinical Operations at Eli Lilly to hear her thoughts on the SSS. She shared, “The Summit, for me, is really the genuine place to find more intimate feedback from sites. It’s about that true partnership”. She went on to share that when we truly partner for success, we focus on shared goals, common values and innovation in many areas-including training. “One of the areas Lilly has taken a leadership position in, as we’ve partnered with Trifecta, is really listening about training. How can we do it better? How can we do it more consistently? How do we make it easier? How can we ensure (investigators can) train ‘just-in-time’ instead of forcing them into one certain time? This is something we continue to get good feedback on.”
Lilly and INC Soar at Eagle Awards
During my first year living in Indianapolis, 2009, Lilly CEO John Lechleiter established the Lilly Development center of excellence (DCOE) to “distinguish Lilly from its peers by using one common operating system, one common set of priorities and a singular focus to streamline the development of new medicines.” The ultimate goal of DCOE was to accelerate the launch of important Lilly molecules over the next decade and bring innovative medicines to patients sooner. It was around this time that Trifecta partnered with Lilly to develop the standard training initiative, to eliminate redundant training for Investigators. As Lilly won the Eagle award (for the third time since 2012) I couldn’t help but feel that the DCOE and Lilly had fulfilled its destiny. I also felt a sense of pride for whatever contribution Trifecta has made to improving the site experience and making Lilly the sponsor of choice for sites.
The Eagle Awards gala was a fantastic event, and even more fun when INC Research/Inventiv Health, another Trifecta customer, won the award for the top CRO. The acceptance speeches by both companies conveyed sincere appreciation for being recognized directly by the sites for the work they’ve done to help sites be more successful in their clinical research activities.
